Bog oak - it's oak that have been buried in peat bogs and preserved from decay by the acidic and anaerobic bog conditions, sometimes for hundreds or even thousands of years. The extremely low oxygen conditions of the bog protect the wood from normal decay, while the underlying peat provides acidic conditions where iron salts and other minerals react with the tannins in the wood, gradually giving it a distinct dark brown to almost black color. Since there is such a limited supply of the wood—with Bog Oak essentially being the very early stages of fossilization—prices for this type of wood are very high.
Padauk is an exotic wood from Africa that is almost crimson, but oxidizes to a darker, rich purple-brown over time.
Very beautiful jewelry for both men and women. Polished facets and crisp edges beautifully playing on the sun.
